I like Luke Shaw a lot. Unfortunately he has been a flop for Manchester United. For a player who cost £27m to sign, we should be getting way more than we are getting from him. Unfortunately injuries and poor form means he could well be sold this summer. After selling the likes of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin as well as other youngsters, Jose Mourinho is expected to clear-out more players in the summer. And if you believe the Daily Mirror, Luke Shaw could be one of those that will be sold by Mourinho once the summer transfer window opens.
Where will he go?
Tottenham reportedly want the former-Southampton defender. Tottenham are said to see him as a direct replacement for Danny Rose who could be sold to Manchester City. Personally I would want him to remain at United but Mourinho has recently been very critical of the former-Southampton star which is an indication that the end has come to his United career. Shaw hasn’t been given much playing time under Mourinho this season and the few times he has been trusted to play, he has not delivered. The other times he is busy getting treatment to one injury after another.
Who could replace him?
If Mourinho sells Luke Shaw, he certainly has to bring in a replacement, especially as Marcos Rojo is not good enough. One name that I will personally like to see at Manchester United is Benjamin Mendy of AS Monaco. Mendy is only 23 years old and has his best years ahead of him. He has been one of Monaco’s best players so far this season. The problem will be convincing Monaco to sell the player.
Mendy probably going to jump at the opportunity of playing in the Premier League, especially for a club the stature of Manchester United. Convincing Monaco to sell at a reasonable price will be a bit difficult given their performances in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Judging by how inflated the summer transfer window is likely to be, especially as the Bundesliga clubs also now have more money to spend after the signing of a new TV deal, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Monaco wanted as much as £45 million for the player.
